The Program in Mathematics and Molecular Biology

PMMB

The Program in Mathematics and Molecular Biology (PMMB) is a multi-university interdisciplinary national research and training consortium, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) Interfaces Program . In existence since 1988, PMMB is currently in the third year of its second 5-year NSF funding cycle, and the first year of its 5-year BWF funding cycle. Click here for the listing of the members of the Program and their relevant areas of research. The overall goal of PMMB is the continued expansion of the applications of mathematics, including statistics and computer science, to molecular biology. The intellectual focus for our program is the development of mathematical and computational tools for the design and analysis of experiments on key questions in molecular biology. PMMB sponsors the interdisciplinary research conference series Mathematics and Molecular Biology in Santa Fe, smaller workshops and symposia at universities and professional society meetings, a competitive national fellowship program, and interdisciplinary student training and research in PMMB membersâ laboratories.
