Web-based Applications

Student will develop a variety of web-based applications using technologies such as CGI, Apache, and perl, with the goal to continue building the CSIT vislab website.

One will be a news server that allows submission of news items, links, and images. The other is a local web crawler that generates HTML documents based on content in student directories, according to rules specified in configuration files.

Features include:

• Can submit news items
• Ability to upload files including images, thumbnails, etc. Admittedly, the way this is done is verrrrry clunky.
• Can edit news
• Can place news in different and multiple sections.
• Can pick icons

Features include:

• Recursive directory crawling and summarizing
• XML customization files
• Automatic image and movie thumbnailing
• Automatic captioning, title.txt and body.txt use
• Different and customizable backgrounds for each user
• Source code syntax highlighting
